A quick overnight trip to Blackwater. A wonderful trip. The location is superb, abundant wildlife to observe, the fishing is great and the catching slow but adequate. Caught two really big American eels, a nice channel cat and a medium blue cat. Was a great outing.
We can taste the smoked eel now. Smoked eel on bagel with onions for brekkie is fantastic.

Nice eating size cats. I've never eaten eel how do you smoke it. Do you skin it 🤔

I've only had eel at the sushi bar. Good Cobia bait.

Wonderful report! The variety of wildlife there is quite diverse. I'm surprised you didn't catch a northern snakehead or two. Invasive species as you know, but very tasty!

The eel is gutted, skin left on. Soaked in a brine, dried, and hot smoked. Absolutely wonderful.

We tried for snakehead: No-joy. So did a lot of others who stopped by and made a few casts. No hits, runs or errors. General consensus is that it is just a bit too early.

Everything loves eel. They are quite oily and tasty. Folks use cut eel for catfish bait. To us, they are just to good to use for bait.
