Hi, Everyone,
My name is April. My husband and I recently moved to Northern California (Albion) and we're trying to learn how to fish from the ocean shores. Surf Perch, Strippers, Rockfish...whatever we can catch.
We love to fish and have been fishing in lakes but we want to learn new skills. Would love to hear all of your tips, tricks, and advice.

Welcome aboard April. Can't help from over here but some locals should be by soon to help you and your husband out.
Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy.
First hint. Beware of spellchecker. "Strippers" usually triggers a string of abuse.

Welcome aboard, April! So much to learn when you transition from fishing fresh water to salt water! I do both and have been doing both for over 50 years :-)
My BFF and I almost became Camp Managers there at Albion, but the owners wouldn't accommodate the vacation time we had already booked in September of last year to Kauai, to celebrate my 60th birthday with my kids, family and friends. They told us we should reschedule our vacation! So we said, sorry, we cannot work there then :-(
I did enter a kayak fishing tournament at Albion and I won for catching the biggest Ling Cod there for that weekend! It was my first and only time I have fished from my kayak out in the ocean too! Fishing is great out there from a boat or kayak, but if you plan to fish from the shores, be careful, is my first suggestion. Know when the tides are coming in and going out. Many ways to fish, with bait or lures. Favorite baits are squid and mussel (that you can get from the rocks there at low tide). Those baits, along with sandworms should get some fish in for you. As far as lures, I like using maribou jigs with a trailer (curly tail grub) attached. Other good lures are jigging spoons and jerkbaits that look like sardines, anchovies or herring. :-)
I hope that helps and welcom to the Big Blue and The Stage!
You should have a good time in So Cal, there are many places to fish.
It's depending on what you want to fish for.
Hit a local tackle shop and they can help you figure out your optionsi l look forward to seeing a few new pictures.
Tight lined my friend!
I'm guilty!!! Sorry folks
My ex wife and I tried to buy the Albion campground but had problems with the owners-- Neat little Cafe if it's still there---

I grew up in fort Bragg but fished as a kid in Albion . You can fish in the lower river and beach . Used to catch lots of perch . Squid works good . Talk to people in the store .
Welcome to you both. Glad to have you here.Bobby from NC
