Are there any fish left to catch in Washington? I was razor clam digging this weekend ,and only caught 5 small clams .I tried surfperch fishing. That was even worse .did not get a single bite .what I did get was tangled with not one but 2 idiots who decided to fish on either side of me .I cut my line and gave the mess to the idiots . After that shit show I went to the jetty and tried to snare a crab and again was met with to many people who do not no how fish. Needless to say I caught 0 crab .some times I just want to give up ,throw my gear in the drink .then I realize if I couldn't go fishing next weekend .I would sitting at home wishing I was fishing .

Ignorant people don't make for good fshing partners. Unfortunately they're part of the game. You didn't mention if you were retired or not, but weekdays are much nicer than the weekend.

Unfortunately I am not .I am 43 and rarely get to fish on weekdays .so I come here and vent to people who understand. I remember standing in the surf and looking down the beach and seeing nothing but sand . A little completion is not a bad thing but please give people a little space is all I ask

You sound young enough to walk a bit. There are miles of beach. Most yahoos will not walk, so a nice beach stroll will get you some space and good fishing. As for clams, my daughter and husband limited on nice size clams near Long Beach this last opener. Jetties are another matter. They are a people magnets. Avoid at all cost on weekends.
Good luck and don't give up. If you do however give up, don't toss the gear, I will take it and give it to a kid that will someday see todays crowds as the good old days.

Brian yes still fish clams in WA we got our razor clam limits but had to stomp them bc surf pounding

Saturday the surf was crazy strong stirring up plenty of natural food making it difficult for perch to take our offerings (not sure your bait) I use Surf forecast app to help me know if safe and worth the effort to perch fish
I’m like you miles of coastline for perch fishing I go where open
However if guys start getting too close I tell them to move because I don’t cast very good and might get their lines 😉 or move to another hole
Maybe others join you because they don’t know how to locate holes that’s what I think anyway

Crabbing off the jetty is going to be tough now especially as the season ends and molting begins
I frequently have an open seat in my boat for crabbing but won’t start again until October when crabs are full

I get frustrated at times because of individuals new to fishing lack the skills and unspoken fishing etiquette gained over time usually I will offer assistance

May 10&11 clam festival in LongBeach so be prepared for many unfamiliar with clamming fishing or driving on the beach

Yes. 44 inch red drum. It's the most recent, not the biggest. Biggest was 48.

I dug razor clams at Long Beach Friiday through Sunday. It was tough and the clams were tiny to medium. The "shows" were hard to see.
Friday we got 30, Saturday I got 12 clams and he got 3. By Sunday he was done and I got 10.
Going back in May.
Crabbing opens July 1st for Puget Sound , at least at Whidbey Island. We use our boat and usually limit. LOTS of flounder, perch, etc.

I have never caught perch in the sound. What type, and where, general area of course. I have caught greenling and all sorts of flatfish both sides of the deception pass bridge, but no perch. I would appreciate any info you can provide. I find it a long ride to hit the coast for perch from Blaine. Thanks.

It's been many years since I fished for perch in Puget Sound but back in the day we would stop by Saltwater State park and flip over a few rocks and gather a bunch of pile worms( not sure if that can be done nowadays legally). Then we would head to one of the fishing docks , not sure if it was Des Moines or Redondo and catch perch like crazy. If I remember right there were a couple different kinds.
I live on the coast now and use the Berkeley Gulp sand worms for bait. They work great !

Thanks. I will go play around the commercial docks in Blaine and see what happens. I have a small boat, so can get to pilings that I expect few people have fished. I have never fished there or seen anyone fish there. I used to do that in Monterey back when we had to avoid mammoths and saber tooth tigers. Those locations are all off limits now days. I am right with you regarding 'Gulp' on the coast. Gulp sandworms did not exist in the Monterey days. I used shucked mussels on the pilings. they were very effective but hard to keep on the hook. Marine worms are now protected in Washington as Unclassified marine invertebrate.

When fishing from a fishing pier the best fishing was just behind where the breakers were forming. It was easy to walk to the end and start fishing but to find the fish we always ended up walking back to where the waves were moving the sand and gravel. Figured it had something to do with the food that was being dug up by the wave action.
