Hello everyone,
I live in Homestead, FL. I'm in charge of fishing, when it comes to my children. We're looking for some on shore sites to both fresh and salt water fish. Any ideas?

When I was at Homestead AFB '78-'80 I took my very young son to Mystic Lake on base. I also fished places where I could get casts from along the perimeter road. Someone in base security should be able to tell you if that's allowed. There is another pond on base, the name escapes me, that I fished from time to time. The on-base ponds are old borrow pits used originally for runway construction, I was told. Any canals that you can get to in the area most likely hold fish, including some saltwater species that have adapted. Hope that helps some. Tight lines to you and the kids.
You might look online to see if there are any Pro Boards for the specific bodies of water in your area. Can be some good tips and info. They are set up similar to the stage but target your waters with a little more focus.
Welcome to fs & thank you for your service

Welcome Nandy13. Thank you for your service. I left the Air Force in β78 from Homestead AFB and lived in that area until 1989. Nothing specific since itβll be old info but you used to be able to fish from the Jetty at Homestead Bayfront park. (Saltwater) Black Point marina had areas you could fish from the banks of the canals leading out to Biscayne bay. Then there are the canals and lakes up near the airport for exotics like Peacock bass. Out on US 41 there were the canals that you could fish from and of course the lakes and ponds in the Everglades national park. We used to fish from the bridges in the Keys. Later on with a canoe that could get you into Holiday Everglades Park for freshwater. Sooo lots of opportunities. Eventually we moved up to boat fishing and offshore of that area is pretty spectacular. Anyway sorry for not being more specific but that was 35 years ago when I left to move further north in Miami-Dade Co. and now central FL. Tight lines and keep them kids fishing ππ»ππ»ππ»π£
