I agree
I did catch a bass that about 2 hours earlier I hooked with a worm and broke the giant off.
2 hrs later went down the same bank a rock bluff and caught a 14” one that had a hook and same color worm as I was using. Someone knew my secret 😜😜
True story as my buddy in the back of the boat will never let me live down how big she was when broke off.

One of the most important questions to ask someone about catching fish is, "How deep are they?" Using lures that work best at different depths or one that can cover all depths is important. So, given that, if you are fishing a top water lure and it is not working change to a diving crankbait or something else that allows you to work different depths or cover structure.

When someone on the lake tells me they caught something wherever I always ask how deep it was ( and I mean the fish) and then I don’t know if they are telling me how deep the fish was or how deep the water was

Usually I change lures or bait after 15 minutes.
Sometimes I just cast again in a different direction or move to a different spot, when I know I have the right lure or bait.
Tight lines!

I change them out as soon as I get stuck and snap the line, which is about every 15 casts
