Moved to Bayou La Batre, Al. 4 years ago and last year got into fishing again. Been freshwater fishing all my life.
I hope to get better at surf fishing through the help of fellow fishermen on here.
I hear a lot of different terms thrown out about different spots in the surf and trying to catch the lingo.
What does it mean when you cast in the thin water or different locations on sand bars?

Standing comment is that people cast past where most of the fish are. The skinny water they refer to is the area where the surf flattens out and runs up onto the shore. As it rolls back it carries small critters into the shallow water along the breaker line where the water falls over. There is often a small step down to water a foot or 2 deep and that's where a lot of fish hang out to get fed on the return flow of the water.

With the bars, theatrics is the fishing will cruise along the inside edge of a sand bar. What you look for is any break in the sand bar where fish can swim in and out. It's also a spot where water will flow back out to sea side of the bar carrying food along with it.
