I took my 4 year old grandson trout fishing yesterday. PA requires a permit; they need a social security number for it. It is free, but we stood on a line for a half an hour. There is no reason to require a 4 year old to get a permit.

That’s crazy! But PA has some of the stupidest laws ever so I’m not surprised. You can only buy a small amount of beer at a time but you can go back as many times in a row as you want?!
And they wonder why fishing & hunting has consistently been on the decline

Here in NM kids under 12 don’t need anything. 70 or over get a free license.

That does seem a bit ridiculous.
Maybe funding is based on the amount of trout stamps?.
I haven't picked up a new booklet yet.
Is it still under 16 free fishing?

The clerk said it's to help curb addiction to alcohol n gambling on lottery tickets.

The war on drugs is becoming profitable to all the states that are now the dealers.
Outlaw firearm so when people get drunk or high nobody will get shot 🙄
Just cause more wrecks. Like cellphones hasn't taken their toll over the yrs 👍
Washington does not charge kids, but still requires punch cards for salmon and crab at no cost. This is logical because the cards are turned in for fish counts. On the other hand us old folks get a license discount, but by the time we buy all the permits for parking and shellfish to use the license we are pushing $100

Nothing required in Connecticut until age 16. I think that reasonable and realistic. Call or write your state representative or see if there's a group that is sponsoring a change to this STUPID rule/law.
