The boys and buddy Nick headed down to the Raritan river for stripers yesterday and did pretty well. Threw 9” paddle tails and landed 17 between the three of them. Some over the 31” slot and a few under the 28” length but they were each able to keep one within. Pretty windy day but they had a good time. Son Gregg has Go Pro videos but I’m unable to post them with my computer illiteracy.

So bknecht am I reading correctly in that anything under 28" or anything over 31" leaves only a 3" slot for keepable stripers? Congrats for their success.

Yeah Joel, those are the current regulations for Jersey as of now.

That makes our 5" slot for walleye in the lake we fish seem big. Each lake here seems to have its own set of rules for keepers.

What is the slot length for the lakes you fish? In Jersey where I normally fish for eyes there’s no slot, just an 18” minimum.

It's a 15" minimum state wide but for the main lake we fish keepers are between 15 to 19 15/16, but you can only have two per day. A 20" to 28" have to go back and you can keep one over 28" state wide. Another lake you can (option #1)keep one between 15 -18, then three between 18" - 22", (option #2)or four between 18 -22, or keep one over 22" in either option. So a person has to know what is legal in each individual lake to stay out of trouble.

Just like the waterfowl regulations, you need a PHD to interpret the regulations.
