Hello,

Heading to Blue Ridge for the next few days and would like to get the scoop on where to fish/flies (for trout) to use this time of year. New to Georgia and did a lot of fly fishing out in Colorado. Appreciate it!

Haven’t been this year. I live in south Alabama but have a cabin south of Blue Ridge.

I think this is about the start of the delayed harvest when the state stocks parts of the Tococa River. Above Lake Blue Ridge it will be at Sandy Bottom. They also stock several places below the dam. One is at the park right below the dam. Pretty good wading and good parking. I would suggest you not go there on Saturday mornings during delayed harvest; too crowded!

There is a fly shop in downtown Blue Ridge, and those guys are helpful. They can hook you up with a guide if you like. For first trip might be a good idea. There are several private streams with trophies that the shop can help you with.

Where do you live in GA?

Thanks for the help! My plan was to hit the local shop and pick their brain.

Thanks for the offer but I am going to run solo on this one, if I skunk out I will be in touch.

I’m down near Atlanta in Smyrna, heading out that way today.

Oz is right about listening for the warning when they open the flood gates. I got caught in it once the water comes up SWIFTLY and VERY QUICKLY!
