The rule of 3rds states that the horizon line should be on the top 3rd or the bottom 3rd of the picture. The subject should be to the left or right 1/3rd. Most often people put it dead center. It has to do with balance. I think your picture is beautiful and was not in any way being critical.

Some cameras you can turn on those gridlines to assist you in framing a shot.📷
