Wv mike Loc: Parkersburg area. Wv

I should have known better BUT i was throwing a musky plug a 9” solid black slug-go from the top of a lock wall up about 15 foot. And a very big fella ( musky) came up and grabbed it I was by myself and fought him a good little bit and had him whipped but he went around the end of the wall and before I could get over the handrail he cut me off. Iv got a big pier net but left it at the house. Bad thing is he got a 9” slug-go and about 20 foot of 65lb power pro to drag around if he can’t get rid of it.

Round 2. I went back to the lock but I didn’t Stan on the wall I went below the wall ( where I should have been to start with) and was casting a crank bait and snagged my line that got cut off at the top of the wall and I started to pull it in by hand and the fish was still hooked up. I tried the hand over hand thing but lost. It pulled too hard and I didn’t have enough line. It was coming to the end of what I had so I clamped down and it cut me and the hook pulled out. At least I got the line and the lure out of it’s mouth.

Be careful with that braid Mike, it will cut you to the bone. Keep a pair of gloves with you, or a wooden dowel to wrap the line around. I wrap it around my needle nose pliers if I have to pull on it. At least you freed him from the rig and line.

But, you almost had him Mike. Next time! Nice looking soft bait, and I saw almost the same black/dark bait catch a large musky this past fall by a young man casting lures around the lake I usually fish. The lake was already drawn down 5’ in preparation for fall/winter/spring flooding and you can walk almost the entire perimeter of the lake’s edge. Here’s the pic.
