Funny story.
When I was little probably in first grade or so I would spend the summer in the back country of San Diego with my aunt, uncle and grandmother.
My uncle was a carpenter at a ranch there and we lived in one of the houses that the ranch provided there. The houses were scattered around the ranch so we had no neighbors.
One day there were a bunch of prisoners clearing rocks from a field by our house with the guards watching them. They were hauling the rocks away in wheelbarrows.
I took my toy wheelbarrow and went to help. They would put a small rock in it and I would haul it away.
At lunch time I sat with them and the guards gave me lunch with them.
Still remember that.

Funny story. br When I was little probably in fir... (show quote)

Definitely from a time gone by.
Now a days they probly wouldn't let you within 100 yards of them.
Maybe for good reason too.
People just seemed to have more of a sense of decency back then.
None of those guys probly even thought of harming you back then.
Not so sure that would be the case today.

Funny how we remember things from the past. I heard that as we get older we remember things from the past.
I remember one of the prisoners saying no one lays a hand on him.

Yep. That's what I mean. How even the convicts look out for children.

Nice little story Larry thanks for sharing from a time from long ago in your past. Innocence of our young ones is still alive today, just got to be careful who they share it with. Unlike back then when one could play without a 24/7 supervision.

I was 13 of 14 in West Virginia and worked for an underprivileged youth program during the summer we did pot hole patch 8 tons in the morning 8 tons in the afternoon . We also worked with convicts the life lessons I learned will never be forgotten one was when shooting a burglar who is breaking into to your home , make sure they are all the way in .lol For the most part they were decent people who just wanted to get on with their lives.

Just that alone isn't grounds for killin somebody in California if they were just stealin stuff.
HOWEVER, I think it's a fine line. If somebody BREAKS into my house or is just in my house while I'm asleep, I'm sayin I was afraid for my life and my wife's. Never know WHAT their intentions were and if they're dead they can't say differently.

As a kid in the 50's in our small town the jail birds were out picking up garbage early in the mornings....you don't see that any more.

They do that in California, picking up trash along the freeway, the sheriff department is there.
Probably people with just minor offenses.

I remember having to do community service for a couple of weekends along the freeway about 40 years ago. I was hoping nobody I knew saw me.
