Hey folks am I wrong to think dash cams would be a good investment these days?

What do you think and any recommendations?

Also after factory back up cameras. My 2013 did not come with one and running into more places it would be nice.

No pun intended with the " running " comment

Don't have a dash cam so I'm here to see other responses. Back up i do have but only use it to hook up the boat trailer. Old school. Still use the mirrors.

The dash cam could backfire on you also. The little things you do wrong in traffic are recorded.
Maybe best we keep to ourselves in the car in our fortress of solitude.

Recorded where Ed? I would think they just have a Sim card in them like a game camera.

Don't use the backup camera in my new to me '21 Passport, but the warning signal is real nice. Waiting for more info from FS folks on a dash cam......

I certainly wish I had one when hooking up my trailer. Sometimes it takes up to 5 times to get lined up. The tongue is too heavy to move to the hitch ball. I made a fairly comprehensive post last summer about dash cams. If you can’t find it with a topic search, I’ll look it up and send it to you after church.

You sure did Glen, I just typed dash cams in the search feature and there was your July 11 thread. Thanks I am going to check it out.

I was going to reference that.
Remember, when shopping make sure you can discern the numbers on the license plate in front or in back of you.

On the other topic, this car has a backup camera and the most annoying beep which the dealer is saying it's going to cost $80 to get in there and turn it off. Hutch is NOT pulling his weight here, lol.
I never use the camera, can eyeball it much better but for sure, if I had a trailer and boat, would probably be different story.
Peace to all.

I’m with you Kandy. If I try to back up with the camera on the car I end up backing crooked, so I usually use mirrors. I do like the backup camera though when backing into a parking place so I can see how close I am to the car or post behind me.

I tried myself, then Hutch did research. Took it to dealer, they thought they could do it that way too. Nope. It takes a computer attachment under the dash and I need to make an appt. They have one at Hutch's garage but my car is 2015 and may be too old. Plus, he says, it'll take time for the computer to go through all the codes, if it works at all. He's definitely been putting me off. Been 4 months!!
PS Tried those YouTube videos too. Baloney!

Right you are! I got a ticket for running a light in New York. I wasn’t familiar with the traffic pattern there and I found myself in the intersection past yellow. I was relieved that no one saw me and two weeks later the ticket arrived with a picture of my truck and license plate under a red light.
I had my first accident hitting another vehicle in December. We both moved to the center lane at the same time….. I thought.
The other driver claimed that he didn’t see me either. All good until the police called and said—according to the camera you moved second and hit him.
Testimony is meaningless. All about a picture Buy the dash cam.
