Sorry Plumbob,
I totally forgot.
Yes the answer is Peter.
As the story goes during that during the early years of the US Mint a Bald Eagle flew in a open window and got injured by a casting press.
The workers rescued the bird and attempted to nurse it back to health.
They named the Eagle Peter.
Unfortunately Peter died three days later.
It is believed that the grief stricken workers cast a Bald Eagle on the US coinage in honor of Peter.
