How to Protect Your Fame!

Elvis was born in January 1935. and I was born in November 1934. If he had not been born in Mississippi and me in Texas, I am sure we would have been good friends! Well, from there we both followed similar paths. Well, at least partially.

We both went to church regularly. Back then that is what everyone did who lived out in the ‘sticks’! Besides the worship aspect, there was a ‘treasure house’ of social benefits, such as that is where the girls were, besides learning the teachings of Jesus.

During high school, I heard that Elvis would play for various East Texas high school proms as he was just getting started. He did have some difficulty in that many radio disc jockeys would not play his records because his accent made them think he was ‘black’. In any case, the teenage girls would scream and faint when they had the privilege of attending one of his performances.

When Elvis was drafted into the U.S. Army, he refused to be in special services, but was reported to have been an excellent tank gunner and enjoyed his work in the Army!

It was reported that a reporter was interviewing Elvis’ mother. He asked her if she knew Elvis was known as Elvis the Pelvis? And, if she had any other sons, would she want them to follow Elvis into being a star in rock and roll music? She said she did have another son whose name happened to be Enos, but she hoped he would not become a star like Elvis! Just Sayin…RJS
