Went ultralight jigging in 52 degree flooded Sturgeon Pond this evening on a cold, cloudy day with snow squalls and a 50 mph west wind gale. A pile of garbage was at the end of the road on Duck Island. There probably was a cleanup recently. A downed tree was in my fishing 🎣 spot. Crappies were swirling. A beaver 🦫 was swimming. Caught and released 3 black crappies and a bluegill with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line. Took pictures.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I could not help but notice that the water seems so very still for the wind to be 50 mph.

Yeah bands the wind kicked up here around 12:30 or so, today even worse. Think I’ll still give it another try though, better than sitting on my a$$ watching the TV.

Nice catching Bands. That tree should hold the Crappie for you. Stay warm. Thanks for the pictures.
Great job. Though you can have the snow flurries. That calm lake looks like an Eastern Washington scenario on the Columbia drainage. It's calm and then it's small boat dangerous white caps. You can often see the wind wall coming. I would often just plan to fish calm water until noon, then sit in my folding chair with a beer and watch the turbulen afternoon water. Sometimes it can be reverse, but seems to be pretty consistent for several days at a time. Dry fly or popper fish in the morning and tie things down in the afternoon. Thanks for sharing.

I was on the lee side of the pond at the bottom of an embankment. The high winds occurred during the squalls. I was able to cast very far with the wind at my back.
Fished the stergy at 12 years old in 1952.Pouring rain.Had one of my best days.Using a clear bubble float with a white very small popper two feet from the bubble float.Caught about 35 blue gils at a sunken tree.Great day to remember.
