I cannot remember the exact state but pay attention if you want to go into a successful hog stealing enterprise. It seems that hogs would disappear, and no one saw the culprits in action. The hogs simply disappeared in thin air without a trace of a clue.
The county police and sheriff’s department and even state police were baffled how these thefts continued and no one could get a glimmer of how they were happening. However, when the ring was finally found out, it was a couple of brothers who provided an pickup and delivery service for milk products for the local farmers.
In the back of their truck, the brothers had arranged a space for the purloined porkers. They were quite knowledgeable as to the psychology of hogs. It seems they knew that if a hog was picked up off the the ground, it would not make a sound! So, when they were making their rounds of collecting the milk that farmers had to sell, if the coast was clear they would put out some feed in and around their trap, a wooden crate affair. The hogs would be fed and when the right one, the one they had selected, stepped in this crate, its legs through slots in the device, they would pick the crate and hog together.
They happened to know that hogs, once lifted off the ground, would not make a sound of fear or alarm. They would carry the crate and hog over to their truck and keep the hog secluded in the back of their truck. Since their father had a large pig farm, they would haul this purloined porker home and add it to their father’s herd. I am sorry that I do not remember just how they were finally detected in their mischief. I suspect it was someone who saw them at work. Just Sayin…RJS

Sometimes you got to look close to home to people you “trust”
My son and I stopped at a farm stand one day. I looked over towards the barn and saw one of the largest pigs I’ve ever seen. He appeared to be 7 feet long and 36” tall. When I remarked to the farmer about his size the farmer said “you want him? We can load him in your pickup!". He then called his son over to help him load it on. We got the heck out of there.
I didn't know that fact about hogs. My lesson for today!

One of my great...great aunts caught a pair of hog rustlers. They ended up as feed for the hogs.
