I think there were 2 or more prop guns. 1 octagon barrel and 1 round.
At least one scene had both.?

I don't remember what they called it on the show, but I believe the short barreled lever actions were called Horse Legs.

Mc Queen was my all time favorite actor no matter what he did. He left us way to young. But didn’t know the name of his rifle, so I looked it up but won’t post it!! Good topic!!
I thought Hog Legs were pistols???

Hello stagers,
I'll go ahead and answer this question because so many of you are getting it right.
The rifle used in Wanted Dead or Alive was a cut down version of a Winchester 1892 44-40 caliber rifle.
The original was made from a actual 1892 Winchester.
When Steve McQueen first shot it he said " It kicks like a mares leg".
Here's another surprising fact from the TV series.
The ammo on Josh Randall's bett was actually that of a 45 moddern caliber bullet l. The larger ammunition made the weapon appear much more menacing.
