Hey, I got my two piece fly rod , would it make any difference that my line is a 5/6 wt.?. I always have used a 5/6 wt. rod and I don't know if makes a difference. I would appreciate some insight. Thank you and Peace be with you.

Need to use line wt. same as rod wt. in order to get your best cast. 5/6 line is to large to correctly work with 3/4 line guides. Hope this helps you.

With the heavier line the rod will load faster and make shorter casts easier to do. Making long casts (over 25’ or so) more difficult. The rod won’t be able to carry the extra line on backcasts and false casts.

Also, your presentation will be less delicate, and might spook some fish.

If you are not a good caster the heavier line will enable you to cast easier.
Should not hurt anything, just slow down your stroke with the heavier line.
