Medium-light rod with extra fast tip under $200?

I recently sold a toy and now I have some extra money to play with. I am looking for a new Med-Light rod and I’m wondering if I’m missing the boat on something.

Specs -

Med light

Extra fast tip

7-7’6 in length

One piece

Under $200

Used for Light Texas rigging, wacky rigs, drop shots, weightless Texas.

Ideally a full cork handle

I was playing with a St. Croix today, Mojo Bass in med light extra fast 6’10 and it looks nice! It doesn’t have the full cork handle but it feels real good and the price point is $139.

Anyone have any other suggestions or is the St.Croix gonna be the best bang for my buck?

Thanks!

Spinning or casting?

Doh.

Spinning.

But I suppose a casting wouldn’t be out of the question, it’s just those backlashes can really screw up a day, I don’t see the benefit vs. the risk of a blown out reel occasionally.

This rod isn’t an XF, but might be worth looking into. Haven’t heard much feedback on the new Tatula rods, but the Tatula Elite AGS version of this rod gets rave reviews although it’s outside of your budget range by $50-$80.

The main benefit for using a casting for the presentations you were talking about is leas issues with line twist. If you are using braid this doesn’t really get you anything but with lighter fluorocarbon it’s a huge advantage.

Generally I use braid with a flouro leader. Line twist usually doesn’t effect me unless I am feeling like throwing a spinner for a bit.

thanks for the rec though, I’ll check it out!

If you can stretch your budget a little bit and wait for the Black Friday sales to start, the Tatula Elite AGS rod is really worth reading up on. It gets a ton of good reviews and while I have not fished it, my friend has a pair of their M-MH casting rods from the Tat Elite line and they are super super nice.

Just an fyi, kittery trading post is having a 20% off sale through tomorrow, with free shipping too!

Edit: just noticed the fine print, looks like rods require “special shipping”, probably gonna wack you for shipping

Check out the fenwick elite walleye rod. I have the 6’9” one piece and love it.

You can catch fish with almost any old rod. The reel is way more important.
