I am going down to OBX, North Carolina, in ten days and plan on attempting some surf fishing. I fish the southeastern Chesapeake Bay regularly from my boat. However have little knowledge of surf fishing. Need some help!

The best thing to do is check with the bait shops where you are going to fish ,it changes quick down there .But there is always something biting ,bring your long rods and cast net for bait.

If you should catch a small bluefish . Use it for cut bait. Dig a few sand fleas. Free bait and it works . Fished there many years with luck always.Try fishing between the first and second breaks.

Droptine, If you hit a Blitz of large Blues, you should have a 10' - 12' surf spinning rod and a large, 6" shiny casting lure, Don't forget to use 18# test Mono and a wire or cable leader. They could run 10# - 14# each. When you cast into them, if one gets off, keep working your lure as it will seldom come in empty. Blues aren't too bad to eat if you slice them on both sides of the tail base and let them bleed out on the beach. A lot of the fishy taste goes with the blood. The thing to do is to keep your lure running as the Blitz can fade and depart when the bait fish go. Most important, set your drag to let the catch fight the drag, not strip your line (Too loose) or break you off, (Too tight). If you do hit a Blitz, it will be a lifetime thrill. Have a Blast!
