What is the best brand braid line that isn’t super expensive. I had the Berkeley brand but it sucked and it would knot up randomly and stop mid cast.

Daiwa j braid x8 is super smooth and one of the best. You want cheaper but still good? Kastking is popular and I've never had a problem with it.

PowerPro is more $$, but worth it to me. And if you’re using a spinning reel and getting a lot of wind knots, close the bail manually with your non-reeling hand after you cast (instead of just starting to reel and closing it that way). That will keep twist out of your line and avoid “slack” spots in the spool.

Lately I've been a fan of Sufix 832 and Powerpro Super Slick. These have more strands or weaves per inch or whatever they call it, making for an overall smoother line.
From my experience if you're getting a lot of wind knots that is more of an operator error than an issue with any specific brand of line. Common causes include lures twisting your line, twist introduced when spooling the reel, overfilled spools, line spooled too loosely, loops spooled onto reel from closing the bail improperly, etc.

One tip to save $ is don’t replace your whole reel. For example, an avg spool of 150yds will go twice as far if you just replace the last 75 yds (probably all that’s seen the water anyway).
I also agree with the post about proper spooling and limiting line twist. Don’t reel when the fish is pulling drag. Closing the bail manually doesn’t prevent line twist but it does prevent slack that allows twist to get nasty.
Also I use power pro original 10# moss green 150yds for $12.
