Leader line

I’m a newbie. I wonder if the leader line can be the same as the rest of the line. I’m using 10 lb braid and have tied some hooks and some lures to lengths of the braid for quick attachment to swivels at the end of the line. Is this okay? If not, what should I use?

Use mono or fluorocarbon leader. You don’t want fish to see the line hooked to your bait. The leader only needs to be 10ft long. Use an Albright knot or similar to tie leader to braid

Can I just use a swivel at the end of the line?

Your leader should be fluorocarbon and its strength depends on the structure you are fishing in. Rocky structure normally required higher strength than your main line. If you are trolling use a swivel between the braid and the leader, this gives you a Carolina rig. Braided line indicates that you are fishing bigger fish but I always use a leader in any case even if casting.

So far I’m just fishing lakes and ponds from shore. I’ve changed my leader lines to flourocarbon. Hope to try them out tomorrow. If I am using bait, I have a bobber, then swivel, then leader, then hook. Same with lures but no bobber. Everything around here his so weedy I’ve been doing without weights, but maybe should go back to them. I love to cast lures, but just pull in weeds.

Thank you for any advice,
