I thought I bought a boat last week. Made agreement to pick up the boat first of this week. Messaged guy today today to get his address and best time to pick it up. Guy Messaged back I sold the boat. New way of doing business a person word doesn’t mean anything. Made an offer on a 17ft deck boat not as nice but alot cheaper.

I've had people do that to me and I drove to get it at specified time and the guy said "I already sold it."
I said WHAT !
Guy says Hey somebody showed up with the money so i sold it.
I said We had an agreement on a price and time for me to be here and I'm here
He just said Oh well, too late I already sold it.

It wasn't a boat or anything big but still, so much for somebody's word.😠👎

Sorry to hear that Ed. There's no integrity in the world anymore. Better luck on the next one.

Just goes to show people just don't care if their word means anything anymore. Back in 86 was trying to buy a 72 olds Cutlass Supreme I didn't have all the money on me at the time so i offered to put $300 down on the car and go to the bank the next morning get the rest of the money and come over and buy the car he said no I didn't have to do that. The guy sold the car 1 hour after I left. My sister's friend dad bought the car for her 🤷‍♂️

Ed I had a neighbor have that happen on a motor cycle. The seller gave my neighbor the helmet while he went to go get the rest of the money for the cash only deal. Came back and another person offered the seller more and he sold it to him.

When my neighbor returned the seller wanted the helmet back since it was part of the deal.

My neighbor said what helmet.

The world is full of those kind of folks~!!!! We were taught a handshake and your word were like gold.....I still operate that way and would never sell something out from someone that I had agreed to a price and a time....Now if a week or so goes by and no message or phone call all bets are off and I will sell.

I agree. If you make a deal with somebody and they don't meet you at the first appointed time for the sale, I would sell it to the next person that contacted me.
That is standard. You get a call from somebody and agree to sell it to them. Then a second person calls and you say you've already agreed to sell to somebody else but you take their info in case the first person doesn't follow through.
The first person doesn't show, I call the second one then.

I was in the building business for over 45 years.....A guy calls and wants me to go over his house plans with him and his wife.....2 hours later he said I had the job of building his house on a hand shake G .....I called a few other carpenters to help and a few days later I found out that another builder got the job! I called the guy and asked him when was he going to let me know I didn't have the job after all? He just stammered on the phone and I hung up on him..... glade I never started to order materials. I guess live and learn!!! stay safe....later

That sucks! My father in law would have said it wasn’t meant to be.

I took a lesson from real estate. I had a clean 98 Ford Ranger step side. California truck (no rust) with 265,000 miles.
Put it in front of my office on Sunday with a sign that said best offer by Friday. I posted the highest bid daily on a sign. Got calls all week. Started at 2,000 and ended up with 3,500 by Friday.

I still love the story that a friend of mine in San Antonio told me.
His father bought his mother a new washer and dryer, the old ones were 20 years old but still worked just looked worn.
He put the old ones by the curb with a sign that said "Free".
After a week of them sitting there, he changed the sign to "For Sale".
They were stolen in 4 hours. LOL
