We’re looking at the Eagle and Colorado rivers around the Vail area. I just need to know when the best time for calm(ish) waters are. If there are any other good/better places to fish around here let me know. Thanks.

Usually mid May to mid July are runoff. That can vary by a week or two in either direction depending on the snowpack for the year and the weather in the spring. For example, a lot of rivers were really high into August due to the large snowpack from this past winter.

I'd say September is my favorite fishing month around here usually.

Yeah, right now would be good. As soon as it starts to cool down the fall is always a good time. And then you have pre-runoff April-May, there's a great caddis hatch on the Eagle.
