Lead head jigs with soft plastics works great. Of course lead head jigs come in a variety of colors and weights. As for the weight, depending on the depth you wish to fish and the speed of your retrieve will help determine your weight size. If fish are deeper and in cooler water, use a heavier weight and slower retrieve to get your bait deeper, and of course a lighter weight and faster retrieve if fish are feeding closer to the surface. Color of your jig heads and soft plastic baits varies based on water clarity and species, but some like your mullet or shad colors work well almost anywhere. Also, if you can find schools of bait fish and are capable of throwing a cast net, mullet, menhaden, and pinfish or croakers make an excellent live bait for fish such as trout, redfish, snook, snapper, tarpon, etc... Again, depends on where you are fishing and the species located in your area. Always remember too that baits often times change with the temperature and seasons, so what works well on a hot, sunny day, might not necessarily wok on a cool or cold winter day.

Easy! Lucky Craft flash pointer in 110 & 115. Saltwater version. With out a doubt the best surf fishing lure on the planet! I would challenge anyone who says different. I’ve been fishing off the beach for 40 years and this lure out catches them all. Halibut, flounder, striped bass, surf perch & more. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a couple. Sardine, anchovy, & smelt are my favorite colors/patterns. They work everywhere 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

Exactly! That’s how I was turned onto Lucky Crafts. The shop owner holds both world records for barred surf perch. I asked him what he uses to catch such giant perch. Lucky Craft. I was skeptical at first. Pricey and they looked so similar to much less expensive brands. Bought one, fished it, and caught so many fish first time out I was shocked. Over and over this lure proved itself to where it’s all I throw. Got my 8’6” Okuma rod, 2500 Shimano Sedona spinning reel, and a fanny pack with 3 Lucky Crafts and a pair of pliers.... that’s it! If it swims and eats baitfish, it WILL hit your Lucky Craft when all other lures fall short🏄🏼‍♂️🎣
