I had been looking to get a new fish finder for my small boat. Seen some where the transducer is mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor. Won't this cause issues with interference of the sonar ? Some have said it will cause false signals and interference with depth readings also. Can anyone help who has had their transducer mounted to the bottom of trolling motor.

Get a trolling motor mount and you'll be fine... Bass guys have been doing it for years. interference is usually caused by multiple transducers overlapping cones... it can get weird with a side imaging transducer, not because of interference but because your moving the motor all the time disrupting the image scroll...

Kpt,
I’ve attached several to the bottom of my trolling motors & haven’t had any problems. I do how ever cut an old inner tube & place between the transducer & the motor before tightening the clamp.

I've also have had a transducer mounted on a trolling motor several times with no problems. It is nice to have one up on the bow with you when you are bass fishing from the front seat and then have another one on the transom for running and search larger areas for structure. the only problem I ever had was if I forgot to turn my fish finder with the transom transducer off when I was using the one in front and they were both the same brand and used the same frequency.

I've had trolling motor mounted transducers for years & love it. I've always had a second locator mounted midshipman or near the rear. I could only turn on 1 at a time because even though they were the same brand interference was considerable. I have been told that on a larger boat with the transducers further apart the interference was mild. I now have a minn kota ultrex 36 volt with the transducer built in & connected to a humminbird helix 10. Next to the console I have another humminbird helix 10 si/di unit & there is no interference on either when they're both on. I have network cables but never use them. Way too nice a setup for the likes of me but i love the views. Anyway, mount your transducer on the trolling motor & go fish. Catch a biggen!

My problem is how big of radius does it cover . And are the things I see on screen infront of me or behind. And temp must be up top water. It has something to do with how you spend.

The best "take the answer to the bank" answer you can get would be from customer service at one of the locator manufactures. I had several discussions with 3 top manufacturers before I chose my locators. You'll be spending hard earned bucks so take advantage of all the professional help you can get. Good luck & I hope you're as happy with your unit as I am.

I have a new Gamin Fish Finder still in the box and after reading this I am kinda up in the air as to how I should mount the transducer. I have a 14 foot Jon boat that has to be stored in a public lot when not in use so that means the trolling motor has to be removed when not in use. I keep the motor in my household shed so would that possibly damage the transducer when sitting on the floor and leaned against the wall? The other solution of course is to mount the transducer to the rear of the boat but how level does it have to be in relation to the water? I did print out the instructions for my particular fish finder off the Garmin site but naturally there are still several unanswered questions. YouTube is a help to a certain degree but usually not 100%. Thanks for any input given.
