Been looking at used pontoon boats on marketplace. Found an ad for a 2003 22 ft. Bentley pontoon with 90hp 4 stroke outboard and trailer for 1200$. First thought was fake ad because it was posted from several different cities. Sent the guy a message saying fake ad, he message me back to email his aunt because it is her boat. I emailed her and she Immediately wrote back saying her husband had just passed away and she was selling it cheap to get rid of it soon. Ebay is handling the sale she is sending my name etc and they will contact me. Next thing will be shipping costs.

Good Luck Ed, but please be careful. I almost got tricked into buying a Nitro Bassboat, by the same story.

Ed, that's the same story I got a few years ago on a tractor 🥴 he was going to be out of town but he gave me his boss's info and said he would handle the sale, I turned the information over to the sheriff's office and they said it was a scam they see it all the time, I hope you find out that's it's true but be careful 🙏🙏

I would have her bring the Title to meet with her at a police station parking lot. Then go look at it.
have a Certified Check for the $1200, NOT Cash. Made out to you! Take her to her bank and sign it over so she can sign it and deposit it after you have the boat and trailer. I am assuming the trailer still has a legal registration and plate. Then I would drive it home.

All's I can say is BE CAREFUL. As several other people have said , it certainly sounds like it COULD be a scam. Not sayin it is, but sure sounds like it COULD be.

I’m 99% sure this is a scam!!! If your are asked to purchase with eBay gift cards I’m 100% sure it is. This is the M.O. of the standard boat selling scam. Husband just died or they are being deployed. BE CAREFUL!!! They can make the EBay stuff look authentic.

They almost got me a couple years back but I had my MIL look into it, she’s been selling on eBay since it’s start, and she figured out it was a scam. After that I found the same scam over and over in every selling site. You report them and nothing happens. Price is always $1,2000-$1,500 for a boat worth way more than that.

I would agree with the other guys saying it's probably a scam. That's why I don't buy anything for more than $100 online, if it's more than that, I want a face to face deal.
