Hello stagers,
I just read a article initialed " What type of fishing reel is best for you "?
So I'm asking all of you. What type of fishing 🎣 do you use?
Personally a open face spinning reel is my preference.
For my grandchildren I use a closed face bait casting reel. As they progress I'll introduce them to open face reels.

I use spinning reels for lighter lures and techniques, and baitcasters for heavier ones.

Yep, I'm with Fred. However, I use a spinnin reel for 75+% of my fishin.

Easy answer, what ever best matches the rod and game.

IF I am on a head boat I'll use a Penn Style bait caster reel. Release the drag, drop it down and then reconnect the drag.
For everything else I use Spinning reels. Next to never have a Birds nest with them. Learned to use drag on the line when spooling them and if a Snag occurs, use something round to wrap the line around 6-7 times and pull with the rod straight, pointed at the snag. That way the line does not dig into the spool for a "Pop Cast" later.
I agree with a closed face spinning reel for younger kids as they are easier for them to use.
The problem with them is the small amount of line on the internal spool. IMO

Never had a birds nest with an open faced spinner. Spinner gets my vote.

Only time I did was when I didn't use drag on the line when loading it. Use to use old magazines for "loading the line', then started using old Penn reels to load the line before loading it on the spinning reels.
Then my wife bought me a nice spool holder to put the reel on and then load the reel from the spool with drag.
Not as fast as having a shop load it, but a lot cheaper. LOL
I have gone to almost all braid as it is smaller diameter than mono so it casts farther and has no memory to worry about.

Personally I like both.
My hands n wrists aren't the best n the baitcaster is actually easier on them.

Baitcasters across the board for me for freshwater, even for light presentations. Friend turned me on to BFS (bait finesse system) baitcaster reels a couple years ago for lighter lures which I typically threw with open faced reels, and I haven't looked back. For salt, however, i.e., surfcasting, I still use my Penn spinning reels (5500 & 6500)--only get to the shore about 3 -- 4x a year though.

Finally someone that likes baitcasters as much as I do. πŸ‘

Maybe one day I'll learn to skip under docks with a baitcaster πŸ€”

Only way I know to do it is side arm. Close face, bait caster (way back) and spinning reel.

Fishing gives a person time to relax, think and enjoy nature.
Have you ever noticed how beautiful the trees look when they are reflected off of the surface of the water? It appears that they are on the water.
How about a duck πŸ¦† or goose gracefully gliding towards the water putting its feet down at the last possible moment. Or how about surprising a swimming 🐻 beaver who slaps the water with its tail before diving below the surface.
Yes catching fish 🐠 is great. But sometimes it isn't.
