Does any one know how the ice conditions are on green lake by traverse city?

I don't think it would be very safe at all yet...especially if you are after smelt. They are out in deeper water that takes a while to freeze up. Things were just getting good around here and then this warming system arrived a few days ago.

My suggestion would be not to go out yet...

Skegemog Lake, near Acme, had 7 inches when I was out last Monday and I felt quite comfortable with that thickness. I was about a thousand feet from shore (from the DNR boat launch) in 16 feet of water. My guess is that we already lost at least 2 inches by now...perhaps even more. Caught a few dozen perch but nothing over 9". The water clarity was poor...almost silty looking...not sure why...

Yeah there hasn’t been much luck this year. We’re talking up going up to the up or even out to Minnesota or Canada

Yep...it's been a very tough season once again this year! The temp forecasts over the next 10 days will not make much new ice, so we'll just have to take what we get when it comes to fishing locally!
