Loc: visiting Grand Isle and Calasceau Lake
Greetings!
Chris here from the frozen north. Will be spending February on Grand Isle and March on Calasceau Lake. I have an inflatable kayak and plan on fishing, crabbing, and throwing my cast net for baitfish and hopefully shrimp. Any help would be much appreciated.
I'll also probably do what I can to chase tuna a couple times, but my wife wants no part of it and it would be prohibitively expensive for me to charter offshore fishing for just myself. I may be interested in joining a small party to share costs and fish.
Currently stocking up on lures - looks like the inshore fishing uses the same stuff I throw at walleye and lake trout. Suggestions of lure types and weights would also be appreciated.

Welcome to the stage Chris. Contact some of the guide services to see if they take the odd man out to fill a spot. Fish the bay side on grand isle from your kayak. There’s small islands and rock jetties. I use the baits in the images below with 1/4 Oz jigheads I also use a weighted popping cork with a kahle hook for shrimp and cocohoe minnows. Good luck. Ask the locals where to fish. Try on Elmers Island, off of La. 1 on Grand Isle. There’s plenty of places to fish from the bank or your yak. Don’t forget your license and check the speckled trout, redfish and flounder regs at the LDWF as they have recently changed.
