I do mid summer trolling in Sierra Mt. lakes at 8k+ elevation. The particular lake is 60' deep in the troughs. I'm having a challenge hooking up even though I've been fishing there for three years now.
I use weighted line, flashers, assorted lures.
Any suggestions. Roy
Try trolling a nightcrawler behind flashers. If you have a fishfinder, once you locate fish, try jigging over the fish at the depth indicated
Great, will do & thank you
I would assume that the target would be Kokanee or trout of some kind. My go-to is a wedding ring lure tipped with worm, 1/2-3/4oz weight 36"ahead of lure(usually on a 3-way). Kokanee love corn as well, rather than a worm. You might try rigging a trailer hook (2"-3" back of main)to get the "short strikes". You also might need to alter your speed of troll. Scent added can certainly help and Pro-cure has many types. My latest favorite is the Bait wax. Stays on and can disperse scent from even hard baits, I put it on the blades ! Even switching out hook size or type, might be the key to success. I often catch grief from fishin' buddies for the excess gear I usually have..... until they need something or my rig is producing, theirs isn't. Then having the ability to tweak your approach pays off... even if you have to make an extra trip to the truck to get it all.
Eastern Sierra? Which lake?
Kokanee or trout? Or don't care which?
