I'm kind of new to this area and wondering if anyone is still fishing the piers, what they are catching and on what? I fished the IC this past fall and did fairly well on drum and flounder but the cold water has shut me down. I thought about trying the piers if it was worth the time and effort but never done any of that. I tried the beach fishing and caught a few whiting and a bunch of puffers but not enough to even have a fish fry. I was hoping the piers were still active for the whiting but is it too late and cold in the season? I appreciate any insight that can be given and wish you all tight lines!

It’s a hit or miss experience. Sea view does fairly most days. Check the fishing Calendar. Know you productively win and use you best guess until you form something that works for you.

I live here Right now the only pier open is Seaview that I know of. Not much going on. The best bet is the ICW or the creeks. Depends on the fish as far as bait. Sometimes fresh shrimp and the green fishbite works well. I would say take every bait you can think of. Also come about late March we have the spot run. Shorty after that it the sea mullet aka whitings I f stay in touch and are in the area I will introduce you to Virginia Creek and we can fish off our private pier.
Thanks Troy, I love the Virginia creek area and that is my go-to. Haven't had any luck with trout though and the creek itself is a long paddle from where I put in. I would welcome the opportunity to access the creek easier and especially with someone familiar with it who could show me the ropes. I have done fairly well with drum and am an apparent expert on catching lizard fish! I have never caught whiting or spots in that area. I have a sit-on kayak that I fish out of which limits my range since I paddle, no motor. I can give you my phone number but haven't tried a private message yet. Thanks for the offer!
Ok I will send you a pm and you just click on it at the upper right corner

If you've never caught a Lizardfish in NC, then you're not fishing. I've caught them up to 17". They make EXCELLENT cut bait.

And to me that’s all they are good for

Yep, I cut out the belly and use the rest for crab bait.

We have them here in San Diego bay.
Small ones make a great live bait for halibut.
