Good evening, hope to find you all well. Mid morning I hit up this pond/lake. It has recently been stocked a few weeks ago. I used mice tails, salmon eggs including rainbow power bait , I also used a pink rooster tail . Didn't get no bites but I'm wondering if it's my inexperienced to fish for trout. I was raised saltwater and it's very rare I try some freshwater. It sure was relaxing thought and overall it was a clear water day šŸŽ£āœŒļø

Ricoe, live bait may work, try earthworms/mealworms/red worms, all small size.

Use a slip sinker (Carolina rig) and pump air into the worms so they float off the bottom.

Can also try a slip bobber and set it to the depth you want the worm at. Use a slide sinker along with the bobber to cast a longer distance if needed.

Use smaller baitholder hooks since you will be using smaller worms, and the hooks have barbs on the shaft to hold the worms better on the hook.

The water looks nice and clear, use fluorocarbon leader.

You may catch more than just trout with that bait.

Oh wow , thanks for those great tips . I did put on a heavy egg sinker so that I can cast it deeper, but when I went to put my rod on the holder I must have had a foot of line on my reel , I spooled myself šŸ˜†. It was very clear , I really enjoyed it , thanks again āœŒļø

If possible, find a deeper part of the lake. Trout scare easy. With that clear water the fish may be staying out of your reach there.

Sorry to hear about the skunk Ricoe. That's a beautiful lake though, and nice clear water. Better luck next time buddy.

Iā€™m not an expert by no means, I just caught my first trout recently at another lake in Ukiah.
I used powerbait eggs, yellow color, garlic scent. Having them ~1-2 feet from the bottom of the lake.
It worked better than spinners and spoons for me.
The pics are great, though.
Tight lines!

I've seen pictures of them Ricoe, and they're beautiful. I'm not a Trout guy, but the few times I've fished for them, Powerbait was the way to go. I've used the little marshmallow type ones, that float, about 15inches off the bottom. Good luck my friend.

Hello Rico
Try this sometime. Use your favorite floating bait, powerbait, marshmellow and worm, etc.
Tie 2 sugar cubes with a slipknot about 1 foot from your bait., do not us any other type of weight. Cast out
and as the sugar melts the bait will float back to the surface. this lets you fish the entire water column.
I've been told that the sugar acts as an attractant also?
