Is there any taste and texture differences between Walleye and Sauger of the same size?

I have never noticed a difference but I’ve only had sauger a few times. Maybe someone with more experience can wade in.

Grew up fishing walleye and sauger in northern Minnesota. Could never tell the difference in taste or texture.

In Minnesota, they are treated as the same in regards to catch/possession limits. One has a spot on its dorsal fin, the other does not. And I don’t know which! You would never taste the difference, in my opinion!

Not likely to find one locally (PNW) but the next time I journey to Lake of the Woods, I'll try one. I love walleye -- both the catch and the eat.

We have all three walleye sauger and saugeye. It’s the same here on possession limit only 2 walleye can be in the mix and they have to be over 18” that’s on the Ohio River.
