I always hear oil in bearings grease on gears,
And a little goes a long way
So when you get a new reel and you open it up to make sure it’s lubricated correctly and you find that it looks like they smeared a whole tube of grease in there.
Anyway now I have to figure out how to put it back together

That's why I never take a new one apart.
It never goes back together like it should, for me anyway.

Uncle T I'm guess you pulled a spinning reel apart.

Gear box on ones I've pulled apart are always packed with grease.

I find my baitcasters easy to maintain.

AhHa! Sorry sir. Bag o reels, bag o guns. Utubers always give us a perfect shot of their nuckles. Not spring, knot, extractor. Please put the camera in front your hands, not behind you! Al's reels are aways perfect. Need a good used reel, a reel repair? Call Al.

For what it's worth, Penn has both grease with oil packs you can buy. I got them years ago from Walmart.

I have some ardent grease and oil that came from Walmart and recently got some from Cabela’s, the Walmart here hardly has anything anymore

I use an egg carton when servicing my reels. When parts come off the reel, they go into the carton in the order they came off. Re assembly is in reverse order.
