DEVOTION #53 “PREPARING FOR WHAT’S AHEAD”

Happy New Year all Fishing Stagers and guests!
2023 is over and it’s time to begin a brand new year! Whether this year has been great, terrible, or somewhere in between, it is now ending and time to begin thinking about 2024. We can’t change the past, but we CAN affect the future by the choices we make, beginning today and each day going forward.

I’m not going to talk about crazy or outrageous New Year’s resolutions that are next to impossible to keep; many of us have been doing that for years, with little to no results to show for it. What if we were to, instead, just make a conscious effort EVERY DAY to accomplish something that would make our life, or someone else’s life, just a little bit better? The key being “little bit” - like baby steps, not a huge, unreachable goal. If you’re overweight (like me),
try skipping a couple fattening snacks each week that you really would like to eat. If you want to save some money for a gift to yourself or a spouse or friend, keep a clear jar on the counter or dresser to toss your pocket change or a few “singles” in, now and then. If you’d like to put smiles on the faces of friends or relatives you haven’t seen in a while, make just one short phone call each week or so, just to let them know you’re thinking about them. (grandkids love this!)
Try reading your Bible for just a few minutes every day - you’ll likely find, it gets harder and harder to put down, and it will often change your day for the better.

All of these ideas are simply good things to do, and are actually also good Biblical principles that can make your life, or someone else’s better. I believe the MOST IMPORTANT thing we can all do on a daily basis this year, is WHATEVER we can to prepare ourselves to be a part of God’s plan. Whether you are currently working on a “God assignment” or praying for His will for your life, the above ideas are great things we all can do to make life better for all of us.
Also, please remember to pray for the people of Israel. They have always been, and still are “God’s chosen people”. Here is what the Bible says about them:

”I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”“
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭12‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

For further details on Israel, see DEVOTIONS #46 & #48.

In the following video, “God’s Unfolding Plan”, Pastor Allen Jackson explains in detail, how we can prepare ourselves this year, to be part of God’s plan. He includes a short interview with a Christian woman, originally from Germany, who is now an Israeli citizen, living in Israel. Her name is Inge Buhs, and her “assignment”, given by God, is a caretaker of Holocaust survivors, remaining in Israel. WOW! (God never said being a Christian would always be easy)
Allen also talks about some of the early Bible prophesies, and how they are directly linked to our lives today.
Please take time to watch this very enlightening message. It’s REALLY GOOD!
