Hey Thi , Welcome to the Stage. Always hone / file your hook to a really sharp condition. Then
Cross their eyes with a good firm hookset. Use line with minimum stretch. Good Luck 🍀.

Use Hook Sharpener or file like Nuts is saying.

The test is to push hook point into your thumbnail it should NOT slide in any direction ( 360 degrees) if it slides in any direction it is not sharp enough yet. Keep sharpening until it sticks into top of your nail and won’t slide in any direction. A salmon fishing guide showed me this trick 30 years ago and it work’s awesome. I test brand new hooks as well as old ones on lures etc.
