I am relative new in USA, I changed with my family last year to New Hill, NC, but I was busy with settling, kid’s schools, etc. Now that we are settled, we want to start new adventures and we want to start fishing in the area. It will be the first time in our lives doibg this so any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Well the first thing will be to get a fishing license. Trust me on this. The Age of the kids will say if they also need one, IF with someone that has a license. With that out of the way, there is a LOT of knowledge on here.
First question for you is how old are they? IF they are not use to bait casters, or open face spinning reels, I would advise like a Zebco 202 or 303 reel. Push the button and cast the rod and let the button go.
Before spending a lot of money on rods and reels, check out your local Walmart or fishing bait stores.
Fresh water fishing is normally different than for Salt water.
Salt is normally bigger heavier rods and reels than Fresh Water.
let us know what your going to go for and we can do better for you with ideas.

Hi, my kids are almost 8 and 5 years old. It's good to know that I need a license, I guessed that I only need to buy my equipment and start this journey. I saw yesterday a lot of Walmart fishing equipment and bought some kids' stuff to have fun.

That's always a good start, having fun. At 8 and 5 fun is the most important thing. A rod , reel and line with a worm an catch a lot of enjoyment.

Smaller Bobbers will work better for them if on a lake or pier. Starting with worms or the frozen small raw shrimp at Walmart. Split the bag up into tupperware containers and when you go out, just add water and they will thaw as you drive/walk out there. Bluegill are great for starting them out on fishing. LOL Later Catfish (for bigger fish), and Croupie (Spelling off). That's if you are fresh water fishing. Have fun with them fishing, size 8-4 hooks will work best.
Also look up Bear paw or Bear Claw on the net. They work great for putting on a hook with leader as they are easy on and easy off. So they don't get hooked taking the poles in or out.

Even Bass pro has them now as well as some bait stores.

I first used them way back in the early 60's, couldn't remember the name and couldn't find them.
Finally found them again. I used Braid so i use the Bear Claws. Braid will cut into the plastic a bit with a big fish.
Mono NP. Again have fun with the kids and enjoy the time with them. I did with my girls.

Joe C., First, Welcome to the USA & The Stage. Kids in NC are exempt from needing a freshwater fishing license until 16 years old. I didn't locate the rules for Saltwater fishing, but I'm sure when you get your license they will be happy to advise you.Don't hesitate to ask questions here, on the Stage, most of everyone will be more than willing to assist you, particularly considering you are including your children.
Good Luck 🍀.
