Haven’t been able to get up there in a while but, I’d say it’s probably a little slow until March or April… 🐟on

Went yesterday the 29th 2 of us worked hard (launched in dark out @3:30) for 8 keepers nice sized released a few shorts and rainbow trout
Didn’t see many others with fish
Probably a dozen boats

They dropped the water a good 2-3 feet in past 2 weeks
Water temp was 45 little wind

Regardless of the success I enjoyed God’s creation watching hearing the Bald Eagles geese around Needed quiet time

2 weeks earlier a few more fish
Fish on top

Heads up one side of dock is on ramp
They could have easily put on other side..
One boat at a time

God’s painting on Merwin

Sounds like a good day. Question: what’s your method for releasing shorts? I have found that the survival rate for releases, at least in my experience are slim to none. So instead of feeding the birds, I just keep all my catches. Which becomes part of my limit… 🐟on

Used net stayed in water I don’t touch as the slim is their protection I did like I do when fly fishing and to help revive if needed used the net they swam away quickly so I figured ok
I agree if they don’t seem ready to swim away they are apart of limit feeding me not the birds

Yeah, I use the net method. But by the time you get them retrieved and get the hooks out their pretty stressed out and survival rate isn’t very high. But I do manage to save a few. Good luck out on Merwin. They’re a ball to catch… 🐟on

I have heard of folks catching them in the dead of winter. May have to get up there and try it. Long time until Spring. May get fishing withdrawals before then if I don't get on a river or lake somewhere. Happy New Year!

That’s the only thing to do! They will die!
