It has been about 1,000,000 years ago that I fished there almost daily after school, so take this with a grain of salt. I always had my best luck on Sand City beach if the surf was not to big to make it unfishable. No strippers in those days, but brought home a lot of surf perch. I am very curious about north of there now that that is no longer a military impact area.

I spent many years in Salinas when I was younger. Fish Moss Landing in the heyday of striker's halibut was great. How long ago was the last time you fish there

There's been some changes in surf hurt. Fishing people used to use sand crabs, pie worms, blood worms and all those other things. But when I was there 20 years ago? They had just switched over to motor oil grubs or pumpkin Colored 2 inch twist tail grubs Use a football sinker with the hole in the middle and a swivel, so the grub can swing.
Back-and-forth about a 2 or 3 foot leader would be good, just kills them. Or use bait with the same set up. Do not throw out past the surf line. The fish are right in front of you. Try to find a trough or 2 troughs leading to Where the water goes back out. Two hours before high tide two hours after
