This is a continuation of Graywulf's yesterday's Thought for Today about making a difference in someone's life each day. Well yesterday I had the privilege of playing Santa Claus at the assisted living home my mother-in-law lives in. I can only share the picture of me with my mother-in-law because of privacy reasons but the smile on her face was multiple times more for others. One Vietnamese lady saw me coming to her door and literally started clapping and jumping up and down as she answered the door.
You can make a positive difference in someone's life today also. Step out of your comfort zone.

That’s great Joel, those thoughtful gestures make a difference in one’s own life and are much appreciated by others.

That's wonderful for you to take the time to do this. I've worked in several homes in our area and most of the residents seem very sad, as though they have been forgotten. The look on you mother-in-law is priceless!

Merry Christmas!!

Yes Doug, many residents in care homes do feel forgotten. We found out yesterday that most of the residents in this home will be by themselves on Christmas Day so we plan to "drop in" with the guitar and have an unscheduled sing-along with them. With my wife having been a program coordinator for the past 25+ years, this has been a routine for us.

So precious Joel. The reason they feel that way is because it’s true. The families don’t take the time to visit. I see it here as well Last weekend our choir went out to several homes and sung with them. We also gave them gifts. It’s a great feeling to ME to spend time with the elderly. Most don’t have anyone to visit them. My parents told us to not put them in a home. They took care of us so we need to take care of them We all agreed. I lost my father last May 2022 and he never went to a home. My mother is still doing very well at 87. She takes care of herself but we check on her throughout the day.

God bless you two! What a thoughtful, selfless act on Christmas Day.

I thank you for doing this as so many of the people who are in these homes are ignored by their families. We always think of Christmas and children and for the older generation.

Yes, my nephew moved to Florida and left my brother in a nursing home in Ct. 2 1/2 hr drive for me. I have made it up there every Holiday, birthday, and just to see him but I can't make it this Christmas and I'm very upset. The "new old car" is not registered yet, no inspection sticker and still has paper plates.
I did, however, play a freebie concert in a nursing home a couple of towns over with a group of 12 french horns. The folks loved it, and so did I!!
Spreading Christmas Cheer!

My wife and I used to take a couple of out pomeranians to the assisted living facility around Christmas time. Everybody loved them and their furry, smug little selves. And of course we dressed them up for the occasion with Santa hats and elf hats.

I would but he has macula degeneration and cant see, just blur. I'll definitely call the home and have them take the mobile back to his room so we can talk. Thanks. Merry Christmas.
Just baked a mess of cookies for the neighbors and Hutch. I'll take Bill a banana cream pie and some of our Dad's peanut butter fudge next week, hopefully!!

Like I said earlier, my wife organized events in several homes she worked in and believe me none of them gave her a real big budget to work with. So when someone or a group is willing to entertain them for free, it really is a big blessing which reaches each way.

I have found there is not many things more rewarding than singing Christmas carols at nursing homes for the residents. We’ve done it for many years, both with our church, and my family. Seeing the smiles and the tears on the faces of those people is priceless.
😊🥲
