Hello there Buck. We all still have much to learn about the sport of fishing no matter how long a person has fished. Me for instance; I'm from the Midwest and know the type fish we have here, but you in Florida have many different species. I'm sure you will find many other Floridians who will share their knowledge especially if you tell what you are targeting and what techniques you are using. I look forward to learning with you.

Hi guys, I'm over in Tampa and just starting to fish... At 71, hah. Anyway, any fishing groups over on Tampa that you might know about where I can get advice?

Welcome to the stage TampaRed. We have guys an gals from Florida. I'd ask whatever here or start a new thread about fishing around Tampa. Now would be a great time of day to start a new one. Good luck and remember we all love pics 👍

I used to fish Tampa alot and we fisherman are always learning new approaches and techniques. I'm fortunate to have some very good fishing buddies and I never stop picking their brains. I used to fish the bays off of Picnic Island for trout, reds, and snook. Pinfish are always a killer and shrimp when they're hungry:)

If you cross over the Gandy Bridge going west, the north side of Gandy around the mangroves can be good while wading. I haven't fished there in a few years, but fish will follow patterns when habitat isn't disrupted.
Also, you may try the Gulf Pier at Fort DeSoto. The Macs will hit cut bait(Greenbacks on sabikis prior) which I usually fished a slip bobber of the bottom.
Tight Lines!! TG
