Met up with Doug (Papa D) and my long time friend and Alaskan fishing buddy Tommy D at the marina about 6:00am today the 14th. We were prepped and baited by 7:00am and headed to the “honey hole”. Conditions looked as though they world be nicer than the 12th on the way out, very little swell at Point Bonita and minimal wind. Once at the grounds though it was windy and a bit choppy from the wind waves. Really had to work the pots to get our 3 limits, took just over 4 sets and 4 hours. Doug piloted the boat for the first time and I was “barking” instructions to him while I was at the hook and puller. Told him it was my expedited course on crab pot pulling. He did very well under the conditions and actually had to correct me a few times. We were back to port by 12:30 and on our way home by 2:00 pm to beat the commute traffic. We have a few weather fronts moving in and we lost hydraulic steering on the way in (kept going in and out, so must be a loose or bad connection and made docking interesting) which means we won’t be out crabbing again for a while until the weather passes and the steering is repaired.

Thanks Bobby! The pictures don’t do it justice though, more spectacular in person!

Nice job Denny. Just need to bleed the lines to get the air out.

Thanks Gordon but we put new lines on in May and bleed them then, all good until yesterday, so pretty sure it’s a wiring problem (salt air and all) since it was intermittent on, then off, then on etc.. I’ll track it down

Denny's all bark but no bite. None of it bothered me -- he takes his responsibility for everybody's safety seriously.
He was gracious enough to leave out that I failed my first driving test -- put it in forward instead of reverse at the dock. In hindsight, I wish I had spent a few minutes at the helm beforehand (been a while since I last piloted that type of boat).
All in all it was a great day even with the extra work.
