Huge sunfish

I have fished freshwater all of my life, but had not seen a sunfish even nearly as large as the one I was fortunate to catch this morning. Thought it was a largemouth bass when I first glimpsed it. I don’t weigh catches because I release all, but I estimate that this one was in the one and one half to two pound range. Every day, fishing is an adventure! (caught it on a small brown wet fly)

Yes that is a nice one, glad you let it go, you never know what is going to be at the end of the line

Nice fish and great pic. I’m w you on releasing all, I’d rather others enjoy the fish many times and let a big fish spread its genetics, rather then eat it once. Well done!

That's cool you decided to release it Sir , the biggies take years to get that size , I've seen too many people here on our local Lake Kaweah keep 4-6" bluegills , 🤷not illegal though ,,

I always thought it was best to eat the small fish 4-6 to 9", If plentiful. Let the big ones go Because they are older they've picked up more crap in the water. But I'm pretty good with the knife. Tight !ines..

I got one in that size range a few years back on Jennings Randolph Lake on ultra light tackle and a Mepps spinner. It was a lot of fun. Then followed it up with a small mouth.
Fun as well. Pound for pound, the blue gill won hands down for fight.

Nice fish.
Merry Christmas!

That's a nice 'gill there. We usually catch so.e around that size around here, if you know where to go.
