This was the source of heat, cooked meals, warm baths and blue air when you had to fill the coal bucket.

I remember them. I bought a wood burning cook stove in the 70s brand new. Still using it too heat front of the house. In fact I have a fire going now.

Cle Elum, WA has deep coal mines that run for miles. They brought in miners from all around the world. Kinda weird that know one uses coal here anymore.

We had one in a corner of every class room (4) in the junior high school I went too. They were coal burning. The boys all took turns stoking ‘um and if you sat next to it you were hot all class and on the other side of the room cold.

My grandmother had a gas cook store but heated her kitchen with a wood burning stove. In the winter she mostly cooked on the wood burning stove. As a product of the Depression she had to save the gas.

Had a wood stove for 50 years the only heat source we had, best heat around but this year went to gas, so happy, just got too old to mess with wood anymore.
