Yippee I finally caught a few Largemouth this morning! Bass fishing has been tough the last few weeks for myself and I think most of the Anglers here at Havasu but doing well with Stripers if they can locate them. Some are coming in with some big 8-9 lb fish. But Largemouth have been difficult until this morning when I launched my kayak at 10:30 at Mesquite Bay. Beautiful sunny 75° Arizona day with no wind, did some trolling for stripers and finally stopped in some tules and did some casting with my Square Bill. I caught two Largemouth 1- 1.5 pound and paddled back towards the launch ramp around 12:30 to catch one more in the reeds.
Best fishing story is as I arrived a guy was just pulling out at 12 ft aluminum row boat and he asked me what type fish he had in a bag. He thought it was a small mouth but when he opened it up it was a huge humongous Largemouth at least 6 lb maybe pushing seven and the biggest fish I've ever seen in person here at Havasu. He also caught it on a deep diving crankbait at 6:00 in the morning still in the dark which is way too cold and early for me!
He took it home for dinner.
TO BAD HE DIDN'T RELEASE IT BACK! BUMMER

Yes I agree completely and he put it back in the water and tried to run some water through its gills but it was just too late. He had little bit of movement in him but he had been out of the water for over 3 hours.

When I was in my late teens I fished federal waters in a refuge in NJ. Every cast w a worm was a boil on the water and 4-6 pound bass, I quickly put 3 in my cooler and released several others took them home and cleaned and we ate them. Worst fish I ever had. Fortunately I eventually matured and realized the error of my ways and I’ve never kept a bass since and I don’t like the taste. Believe you can keep limits but big fish should always be released. I live about 5 miles from the same Federal waters where fishing is prohibited and I can’t say I haven’t pondered sneaking in one more time and looking for my PB there, but at 58 I’m not as adventurous and poaching isn’t something I want to be known for!

JD I use to fish for cats n panfish.
For eating of course.
Got a bass one trip thought I'd try it.
Got a bone stuck in roof of my mouth.
Never ate another bass
Now I target bass but it's all C&R.
Around here they've been thinned out pretty good.
Yrs ago the stocked tiger muskie in sections of the Potomac river I once fished.
Bass fishing at times was crazy because of all the panfish nibbles.
They've been thinned out also.
Now the flathead cats are making their presence know. 👍

Yea that seems to be the theme around most of the country. A lot of pressure on Bass today compared to 20 years ago
JDFishes: Before 9/11 people used to sneak in there and fish. I always heard it was great. You list Atlantic County as a location so I'm guessing the AC reservoir on NAFEC. Really off limits now!

I’ve fished both of them and still venture to the reservoir occasionally and you’re right res was some of the best fishing I ever experienced, I’ve caught many 5+ fish there. Unfortunately some have taken up living on the woods there and seeing a lot of people taking Bass for food, the fishing is no where near what it was.
But place of was speaking of is National Wildlife refuge w a couple test ponds illegal to fish, ponds that are mostly untouched but I’ll assume some young kids are still sneaking in like I did!😁
