Got the broken pot puller fixed back up and mounted right before heading out on Sunday morning. Left at 7:00am and got to the grounds and set out our string. First pull was pretty promising, 13 keepers with 6 loop nets/pots. Reset and pulled again, had 18 on board after the second set and decided to try to pull an abandoned commercial pot (we could tell because it had only 1 really encrusted bouy and the line had all kinds of stuff growing on it). Huge mistake on our part, pot was sunken in the mud and after threading the pot puller with the line tight the very first swell (3 feet) it snapped our pot puller exactly like it snapped last time out when we wrapped the pot line in our pot. Went home with 18 keepers and a busted puller……again. Already have plans for a sturdier mount and to shorten the height extension by 6” and never, ever, try to pull something like that again or wrap our line in the prop. Like Forest Gump said “Stupid is as stupid does….”
Sun up on the way out, you can see the repaired pot puller on the left.

Nice catching Denny, but sorry about your puller. We used to pull the occasional abandoned Lobster pot, and would tie them off on a stern cleat. Then use the motor to break them loose. After that, pull them up by hand. Live and learn buddy. Thanks for the pix and videos. Is that a crab heart?
Thanks Fred! Good idea on the stern cleat, should’ve thought of that. Yes, a crab heart, saw it when cleaning the crab, looked down at the table and it was pumping for a long time, weird, but cool.
Wow, that's a bummer but I bet you make it a lot stronger and sturdier. Crazy! Nice crabbing though!!!

Nice photos & videos Denny ! Was that " I left my heart in San Francisco " !!😁👍Great Crabbing guys !🦀🦀
Ha, Berkeley actually, but close enough!
Live and learn huh. Making it shorter sounds like a real good idea, much less leverage. How rough was it out there? Looking at ocean conditions out of bodega seems like its pretty rough seas.

Our thinking exactly and it was pretty rough, about as nautical as I want to go out in……..
