How do you feel about dogs. I grew up with a Cocker Spaniel named Skipper. He was black as the ace of spades. Then when I was about eight, I was riding my bicycle a few blocks from the house and some folks there had as litter of Fox Terriers. They let me have a little boy who was to become Toby and he was my companion all the way through school. Toby was with me on most of my fishing and hunting trips. He is now one of my fondest memories. Over the years We've had many dogs, each one has a spot in my heart. But, the best have come now, close to our end days. And I believe it was for a reason. We would not have been able to love and enjoy them when we were younger. When we moved to the "farm" we started raising show goats. In about 2014 we got Cowboy. He's a full blooded Australian shepherd. Then, a year later, we got his sister, from another liter, Kimmey Kae. These are the best dogs we have ever had! Smart, obedient, loyal and would do anything to please us. I had always wanted a squirrel dog and then in 2020 we found a man who raise Mountain Curs. And here comes Millie Mae. These are our "new" kids, what about yours?

We now rent a house where no animals are in the contract. But my favorite dog was a Britney Spanual who was my pheasant hunting partner. I don't know how many years I had him but when he went blind and hurt to bad to jump into the truck anymore, I knew it was time for him to be put down. I'm not ashamed to say I mourned the passing of my friend and honestly have no desire to have another dog. They are a part of your family, and loosing family hurts.
Here they are. Kimmie Kae on the left and Millie Mae on the right. And the big Cowboy in the middle.

About to put my best friend in life down . Thirteen years of great family companionship. Itβs going to be one of the toughest days in my familyβs life. Pain is to much to even consider another dog!

I know it's not easy losing a beloved pet, I've been there many times. I've had 26 dogs in my life and each and every one of them were difficult to lose, and I remember each of them.
Above, hold your chin up. If this is the first time, you're lucky. If not you know what it's like. Losing my parents was worse. I've never lost a child, but I can imagine what that would be like. I've had to put down several dogs and for an old man who is supposed to tough, I ain't! Linda and I both cried. Illegitimi non carborundum

I' lost a brother and a daughter several dogs but Toby was the 1st one that really bothered me. He was a chocolate lab that I for a short while when he got hit by a stock trailer then there was Huck who we had to leave with the farm when we retired because he wouldn't get in a vehicle and then Molly
Saw, they're looking at me. Linda took the picture The attention was because there was a treat involved. But, it is amazing how much they pick up. Every morning we'll feed the cattle about 6:00. If I'm late, they'll let me know. Then we come in and after breakfast I ask if they want to go feed the chickens and ducks. What a howl because they are so excited. But, the most exciting thing for them is to go riding in the pickup. They ride on the back seat with the window partially down. What a ruckus. One of them is with me all day. When night comes, they're spread on the floor all over the bedroom. They're my pals.

Unfortunately itβs going to be my fourth time. All were so very special. The hurt never goes away. We are all sitting at home now with him lying on the couch. Christmas tree is up and decorated. Just cherishing the few days precious days that we have him left in our lives! His body is decimated by cancer. Canβt give him the shot. Son wants him to pass in his lap!

Thanks my friend. Vet says that the meds. Will control the pain. If not then we will have to face reality. Our goal is to make him comfortable in his last days. But if he shows signs of suffering we will make that final decision. Never easy.
