If you bank fish in the CenCal Delta then you know what a pain the rip rap (jumbled rocks that line the levee/dike banks) are.
Not only are they a pain to scale (check out the bank on the far side in 3rd picture) but mainly because they're notorious for snagging weights just a few feet out from the water's edge (super frustrating when it snags with a fish on).
Here's my solution -- a thousand words at a time...
------------------------------------------------------
Step 1 -- double the handle length with a hardwood broom handle -- let's you (a) net your own fish in deeper water (b) lift the line for others that are up top (c) get the weight unjammed and (d) use as a walking stick while scaling
Step 2 -- Cut a notch at the end of the handle for (b) and (c), above
Lifting the line for my son -- if you zoom in, you can see how the line is being pulled nearly vertical (only visible against the water background)instead of into the bank
Stuck happens
Pushing outwards (down low) usually frees the weight. When I have a keeper on, I usually opt to net the fish and break the leader then work on the weight afterwards
I bundle my poles with my net (cords stay attached to the net handle) -- it makes them easier to carry and the stout net handle protects the poles

Great ideas. Simple solution, buy a boat! Just kidding!

I would but I could barely afford the broomstick 😭
Besides, it only takes me 20 minutes to get my line in the water when I want to bank fish -- no time wasted hooking up, launching, running from the ramp to the honey hole...

Agreed. Although I have a nice boat, there are many times that I have enjoyed the relaxation fishing from.shore. Never totally relaxed till the boat is home and parked
Outstanding idea... I live on Bethel Island on the California Delta, 42' from the waters edge... I'm creating this Sunday afternoon... Thanks for posting this... 🎣😏
On another note, can you direct me as to where I can buy one of those leather insulated mug handles that I see on the roof of your vehicle??? Thanks for any info... 😏

My daughter thinks that she bought it at Walmart during the Father's Day sales time.
It came with the cup that is the same size as the bunch that I bought at Harbor Freight so it works out great.
I made the mistake of setting it down inside Bass Pro (I was browsing not hunting down what I was going to buy). If the cup hadn't had the 'World's Greatest Grandpa ' leather, I would have stopped looking for it after the first hour.

Did you recover your cup?
Yep. After almost two hours of searching everywhere that I wandered while I was waiting on my buddy to make up his mind on a surf combo.

Yep -- on the floor behind the light-weight Promar hoop nets that I pulled out to see if they had any heavier ones.
